“You're That Bitch: And Other Lessons About Being Unapologetically Yourself”, Bretman Rock

Published February 14, 2023

Hilarious and earnest, this collection of essays, drawings, recipes, how-tos and never-before-seen photos goes far beyond what we know of Bretman Rock from social media. Who is Bretman Rock Sacayanan behind the screen and how did he become the original superstar influencer and today's beloved best friend of the internet?

You're That Bitch welcomes you into Bretman Rock's world—from how his childhood in the Philippines, his family, Filipino culture, and being a first-generation immigrant helped shape him into who he is today. Peek into how Bretman became a social media sensation at the precocious age of 14, balancing living a glamorous jet-setting lifestyle on weekends while still serving lunch at his school's cafeteria, running as a varsity track-star, and making honor roll during the week. With his signature honesty, this is an unfiltered and unprecedented look at what it means to be an influencer and that bitch—from dealing with cancel culture, drama and heartbreak, to what it means to love yourself and your community.

From the funniest and undeniably cutest person on the internet, this is a book for the weirdos and for the bad bitches . . . this book is for you!

I love men. But I hate men as well.

If you’re going to read You’re That Bitch, do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook. I would say this for every memoir and autobiography, but especially for this. Hearing Bretman Rock narrate his own memoir is like being invited into his living room (or chicken paradise in Hawai’i) and being told stories over cocktails and side-eye. His comedic timing, his signature sass, and his ability to make even the most outrageous tangents entertaining shine through in a way no printed page could capture. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, warm, and exactly what you’d expect from someone who’s been keeping audiences entertained on YouTube and TikTok.

Beyond the humor, though, there’s substance. Bret reflects on his rise from viral internet personality to beloved cultural figure, all while remaining unproblematic—a feat in itself in influencer culture. He’s candid about his Filipino heritage and family history (chaotic), his life in O’ahu (idyllic), and what it means to navigate fame without losing yourself (inspiring). There are some NSFW moments in the book, so be warned.

What makes this memoir stand out is Bretman himself. He’s built his career by being unapologetically authentic, and that same spirit radiates off the page (and especially through his narration). He’s living freely, surrounded by plants, mountain views, and enviably good hair, and somehow that feels just as aspirational as his career milestones.
