The Girlies Book Club Picks

We’re not officially called “the Girlies”—that’s just my go-to when I tell Mr. xoxo, “I have book club with the girlies next week,” which sounds way cuter than “a literary discussion with friends and coworkers.”

My colleague and friend Mindi invited me to join her, her sister, and a few of our fellow office dwellers last year. Technically, we meet once a month to talk about a book—and we do discuss it…for about half an hour. Then we move on to more important things: snacks, gossip, life updates, and tea. Think less academic symposium, more cozy hangout with chapters and charcuterie.

Listen. I don’t exactly mingle with the masses—being a professional homebody and part-time blanket burrito. But even I recognize the importance of occasionally leaving the house, interacting with other adult-shaped humans, and remembering what fresh air feels like. This monthly meeting is my drug.

So for fun, here is the list of book we’ve picked so far.
